Grandma’s Easy Apple Pie Bars

Ingredients

The Crust & Topping:

1 package (2 rolls) Refrigerated pie crusts (or your favorite homemade dough).

The Filling:

5-6 Large Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced.

½ cup Granulated sugar.

¼ cup Brown sugar, packed.

2 tbsp All-purpose flour.

1 tsp Ground cinnamon.

1 tbsp Lemon juice.

The Glaze (Optional):

1 cup Powdered sugar.

1-2 tbsp Milk or heavy cream.

½ tsp Vanilla extract.

Preparation Steps

1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking sheet or jelly roll pan.

2. Bottom Crust: Unroll one pie crust and press it into the bottom of the pan. If needed, roll it out slightly on a floured surface first to fit the edges.

3. Mix Filling: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice until well coated.

4. Layer: Spread the apple mixture evenly over the bottom crust.

5. Top Crust: Unroll the second pie crust and place it over the apples. Pinch the edges of the top and bottom crusts together to seal. Cut a few small slits in the top to let steam escape.

6. Bake: Bake for 35–45 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

7. Glaze: While warm, whisk the glaze ingredients together and drizzle over the top. Let them cool completely before cutting into squares.

Why These Are a “Must-Make”

Kid-Friendly Prep: Because it uses pre-made crusts and simple slicing, it’s a perfect “entry-level” recipe for young bakers.

Portability: Unlike a traditional pie that can get messy, these bars hold their shape perfectly, making them ideal for picnics or school events.

Texture: The flat shape ensures a perfect “crust-to-apple” ratio in every single bite.
