The “Disappearing” Chocolate Cake

This cake earned its name because it literally disappears the moment it’s served! It has a rich, velvety texture and is a nostalgic favorite for family gatherings.

Ingredients

For the Cake:

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened dark cocoa powder

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

A pinch of salt

1 cup warm water (or warm coffee to intensify the chocolate flavor)

½ cup vegetable oil

1 teaspoon white vinegar (the secret to making it extra fluffy)

For the Topping (Chocolate Ganache):

1 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bars

½ cup hot heavy cream (or 1 can of table cream/Nestle cream)

Preparation

1. Prep: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease your cake pan with butter and a light dusting of cocoa powder.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, and salt.

3. Add Liquids: Add the warm water (or coffee), oil, and vinegar. Whisk by hand until the batter is smooth and well-combined (do not over-mix).

4. Bake: Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

5. Cool: Let the cake cool completely before adding the chocolate topping.

6. The Glaze: Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 2 minutes. Stir until it is completely melted, smooth, and glossy.

7. Final Touch: Pour the chocolate ganache over the cake and let it drip down the sides.
