Grandma’s Strawberry Citrus Iced Tea

My grandma used to prepare these in large quantities for the community, and now I’m continuing the tradition! There is nothing better than bringing people together with a big batch of something refreshing, crisp, and made from the heart.

This recipe beautifully balances the bold, comforting flavor of classic black tea with the bright, sweet notes of fresh summer fruits. Perfect for backyard parties, family gatherings, or just keeping a jar chilled in the fridge for yourself!

Here is how to make it:

📋 Ingredients

The Tea Base: 4 cups water + 4 black tea bags

The Fresh Fruits: 1 cup fresh strawberries (hulled and sliced) + 1 orange (sliced into rounds) + 1 lemon (sliced into rounds)

The Sweetener: ¼ cup honey or sugar (optional, adjust to your liking)

For Serving: Ice cubes + fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

🥣 Directions

1. Brew the Base: Bring 4 cups of water to a rolling boil in a saucepan. Remove from heat, submerge the tea bags, and let them steep for 5 to 7 minutes.

2. Sweeten: Remove and discard the tea bags. While the tea is still warm, stir in your honey or sugar until completely dissolved. Let the tea cool to room temperature.

3. Layer the Fruit: Wash and slice your strawberries, orange, and lemon. Pack the fresh fruit slices heavily inside large glass mason jars or a large serving pitcher.

4. Infuse: Pour the cooled tea directly over the fruit layers. For an extra burst of flavor, use the back of a long spoon to gently press (muddle) the fruit against the glass to release their natural juices and citrus oils.

5. Chill: Seal your jars and place them in the refrigerator for at least 2 to 3 hours (or overnight) to let the flavors meld beautifully.

6. Serve: Fill tall glasses with ice, pour the chilled tea over the top, and make sure to scoop some of the gorgeous fruit slices into every glass. Garnish with fresh mint and enjoy!
