Ingredients
• Self-Rising Flour: 2.5 cups (this already contains baking powder and salt).
• Buttermilk: 2 cups (cold).
• Butter: 1/2 cup (1 stick), melted.
• Honey or Sugar: 1 tablespoon (optional, to help with the golden crust).
Instructions
1. Preheat: Heat your oven to 230°C.
2. Melt & Pour: Pour the melted butter into the bottom of an 8×8 or 9×9 inch baking pan (don’t mix it yet!).
3. Mix: In a bowl, gently stir the buttermilk into the self-rising flour until a wet, shaggy dough forms.
4. Swim: Place the dough directly on top of the melted butter in the pan. Use a spatula to spread it to the edges. The dough will literally “swim” in the butter.
5. Score: Use a knife to pre-cut the dough into squares (as seen in your image) before baking.
6. Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes until the tops are deep golden brown and the biscuits have absorbed most of the butter.
Benefits
• Quick Energy: High in carbohydrates, providing an immediate energy source for active kids and busy students.
• Calcium Boost: The buttermilk adds a good amount of calcium, which is essential for developing strong bones and teeth.
• Probiotic-Like Support: Buttermilk is easier on the digestive system than regular milk and contains lactic acid which helps with nutrient absorption.
• Efficiency: With only 4 ingredients, it reduces kitchen labor and grocery costs, making it a perfect budget-friendly meal-prep option.
